Here are 5 important types of blog comments you should realize exist in the online world. Your own blogging and commenting efforts can improve if you figure out the kind of comments you wish to get on your blog or leave for others.
5 Important Comment Types You Should Remember
- Acknowledging Comments.
These comments usually exist to solely acknowledge something. From consisting only of “Thank you for commenting! See you around.
” to “Yes, I agree!” and “You are right, I did assume the meeting happened after the announcement!“, Acknowledging comments are usually short answers or responses letting either a blogger or a commentor know about your thoughts that agree or disagree with them. This may be the most widely used form of commenting for many people. This is also many times the minimum level of acceptable comment on many blogs. - Inquisitive Comments.
These comments ask questions in order to find out more about a certain topics. From “What makes you say that?” to disagreements and disagreeing questions, many people leave comments with a question that prompts a blogger or other commentors to leave further comment replies. These are probably one of the two most desired comments by many bloggers, because such comments continue the possibility for further discussion on a blog article and because they also prompt more people to participate.
- Informational Comments.
These comments are many times the longest comments, compared to the other types. The only other comment type that usually comes close, in terms of length, is the Relational Comment which is described in the next type of blog comments below. Information comments focus on sharing some idea, answer, tip or any information that can answer other commentors, add information and answers to the blog article in question, and also provide further help to any existing and future blog readers. These are probably the most sought after comments by both bloggers and commentors, because of the nature of informational comments to increase the knowledge of commentors reading such information comments.
- Relational Comments
These comments usually go along with informational comments, and may actually be the most personal comments people leave on a blog. Relational comments involve people sharing their own experience, story or understanding of something by actually involving themselves in a process and telling others how their own personal self is involved in the topic at hand. This is probably the most fragile type of comments, because not properly understanding the personal story or experience of someone else through such a relational comment may result in you leaving a comment that is inappropriate or even offensive. For many blogs, relational comments either define the future of a blog or destroy everything.
- Spam Comments
Spam comments, or spammy comments, are the most widely recognized form of comments in the world. The concept of a spam comment is understood on a wide scale even outside of the online community. The sole purpose of a spam comment is to advertise a link, text or some concept to other commentors. Spam comments usually come in the form of Acknowledging comments, described as type # 1 above. “I agree! Check out M o v i e P o i n t for more movies!” is an example of a spamming comment. Many spam comments of today actually try to be very lengthy in order to appear more relevant or thoughtful to the topic at hand. They still, however, focus on showcasing their site or link within their comment, regardless of the connection to their comment content itself.
