Improve Your Confidence With Karaoke

karaoke-microphone

In a crowded, smoke-filled room, a person asks me, “What are you singing?”

I stare at the blank sheet of paper in front of me, where I am to fill out my name and song request.

“I’m not sure yet. What about you?”

“Oh.” the person replies, “I’m not going up there.”

“Why not?” I ask.

“I get horrible stage fright.”

“It’s just karaoke. Nobody expects you to be an expert singer.” I say trying to reassure my friend.

“I’ve tried it before. I just froze up.”

I smiled, “Sometimes you just have to forget there are other people in the room and sing for yourself.”

Karaoke and Blogging

Singing karaoke in front of a bunch of strangers is an intimidating experience.

If you’ve ever written a blog post for a rather large audience, it is an equally intimidating experience. You’re placing yourself out there for all to criticize.

It is my belief, however, that the more comfortable you become with yourself, the more your audience will be comfortable with you.

Singing karaoke in front of a bunch of strangers is easy for me to do. I found it much harder to sing in front of a bunch of friends. When you have a horrible voice, several drinks can help a lot in both cases. In blogging, too ;)

    Simonne,

LOL, yes a few beers couldn’t hurt. I think it’s even harder when someone comes up and gives you a song request. There’s a little more pressure then.

I think that karaoke – whether in front of friends and/or strangers – would probably be more frightening for most people than blogging *in the short term*. With karaoke, when it sucks (and it usually does, for everyone’s glee), it sucks fast. With blogging, you may only feel the embarrassment at a job interview 2 years down the road.

By the way, I hope both of you take a shot at my first gwp, the prize list is growing and it’s going to be fun:

    Ronald,

Don’t even think about being intimidated about RAPROJECT and the exposure your posts get. In my view, your blog entries are brillant and it was a karaoke, I’d say you’re singing exactly as Tom Jones or Kurt Cobain – depends which song you’re singing of course.

In case of the real karaoke, I usually encourage myself with the drink and everything goes fine. Of course for the blog it is not the recipe at all, in fact it may make things much worse. The experience is indeed the plus but if there’s none, then for me it is the belief that I might help the others, as simple as that. If I thought I’ve got nothing to give, I wouldn’t even start. I may make some mistakes in writing but I strongly believe that I can make a difference and help people (in my case with computers and web), and this is why I do what I do.

found this website through a plugin tutorial. looks neat. a trick i like to use with karaoke (besides drinking) is picking a silly song that will make people laugh. helps hide bad singing.

Well you need to remember not to mistake confidence with arrogance. Confident person will be appreciated by the audience, arrogant one will probably be boo’d off the stage even if they’re not that bad..

I adore karaoke so much. it is the best way to relax and express your emotion. I like doing it when I was very happy and very sad.

“It is my belief, however, that the more comfortable you become with yourself, the more your audience will be comfortable with you.”

I found that the most important part of this post. It’d definitely very true.. our biggest critics are ourselves.. if we get over ourselves we can succeed in just about anything. ALTHOUGH.. we see quite a few people on American Idol that we might wish people were a little more honest with before they went on television.. that’s another story :)
